Acne Problems - Acne Medication
Probably one of the most irksome afflictions known to man is a little thing we call an acne problem. Those annoying red bumps show their faces the moment we hit puberty, but never seem to go away from then on.
When I was thirteen years old, my acne problems made me feel insecure and lacking in self-confidence. At times I didn't even want to leave the house, much less ask someone for a date.
My friends, most of who were also guys, didn't really care if I had acne problems or not. But those who weren't friends like to bully me in school by calling me names like "zit face" and others I can't even repeat here.
With girls, it was another matter entirely.
It's just hard to feel confident at that age let alone being afflicted with pimples and blackheads.
At first, I used acne cleansers, creams and exfoliants, but they seemed to dry out my skin and make my face peel - real attractive!
Seeing a Doctor for my Acne Problem
I begged my mom to take me to the doctor, but she said everybody my age had some sort of acne problem and that I just needed to keep my face clean and not pop the blackheads and whiteheads. Rubbing alcohol provided some improvement, and I could see that it was cleaning my skin, but still I wasn't convinced my acne problems weren't worse than most kids at school. Finally my mom agreed to take me to the doctor and I got a prescription for acne medication - an acne cream that was supposed to solve all my acne problems. You know what? It worked - fast - at least at first. But after a few days my acne problem returned.
Solving my Acne Problem
Luckily, I had a friend who's mom was a nutritionist. She told me that she had really bad acne problems when she was my age - even worse than mine. She finally began eating smart - avoiding greasy foods and eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. She found this worked best for her as a type of acne natural cure that didn't require any acne medication or drying cleanser or greasy cream. I figured I'd try it too.
I stopped eating greasy and otherwise unhealthy foods. Although it took about a month to see results, I didn't give up because the healthy foods made me feel better anyway. A few weeks later my acne problems were gone.
I hear that acne has different causes for different peoples and nothing works for everyone. But, for me at least, the changes in my diet made a bigger improvement than any of the acne treatments I'd tried before and my mom was real happy to see me eating right. If acne problems are making your life miserable, eating balanced, nutritious meals is certainly worth a try. And, if you don't really have acne problems yet but you're in your teens, a healthy diet is a good way to prevent developing acne problems in the first place - and maybe avoid being called zit face!
